The school was established in 1976 by Ken Jago and Bruce Wicking, educators who recognised that not all young people were capable of success in a mainstream school environment.
The school is located at: 43 Harrison Street Box Hill North.
Berengarra is a non-profit co-educational school that provides innovative educational programmes to meet the individual needs of adolescents with social and emotional problems. We aim to break the cycle of failure and skill students for responsible participation within the community.
Our Students generally display one or more of the following characteristics.
1. A marked lack of confidence
2. Poor academic performance
3. Poor reading skills
4. Poor self image
5. Difficulty in forming relationships with peers and adults
6. Difficult behaviour (withdrawn or acting out)
Our programmes focus on the development of self-esteem and resilience through emphasising areas of strength, strengthening basic learning skills and the development of self understanding. We have considerable experience working with a range of social/emotional difficulties, including ADHD, ADD, Aspergers' Syndrome, Tourette's, anxiety and depression, school refusal and conduct disorders.
